The problem

We were called to inspect a problematic 10-year-old roof in Haywards Heath. On arrival, we found that the fibreglass flat roof had been installed to a very poor standard, with incorrect falls and insufficient outlets for drainage. The vertical tiling had also been executed badly and was in need of reinstatement.

Our solution

We quoted to fully replace the flat roof and reinstate tiling where necessary. On removing the old roof and decking, we uncovered more serious structural issues – the entire outer pitched roof wasn’t sufficiently supported, and neither were the two roof lights.

To resolve this, we installed a double joist to pick up the stud wall supporting the pitched roof and added double noggins to provide stability on the other side. We also rebuilt the framework for the roof lights, as the original support was inadequate.

Bespoke lead outlets fabricated and welded on-site for a perfect fit
Warm roof construction with:
- Vapour barrier
- 100mm Celotex insulation
- Underlay
- Mineral felt top layer forming a 3-layer bitumen roof covering
Reinstallation of roof lights, bonnet hip tiles, and mono ridge tiles
New vertical tiling installed to current roofing standards

The result

The project came with unexpected challenges, but our team handled them in a professional manner, ensuring the roof was structurally sound and fully compliant with modern standards. The new 3-layer bitumen warm roof system provides durability, improved insulation, and correct water drainage.

The customer was delighted with the final result, and we were extremely satisfied with the quality of the finish – transforming a poorly executed roof into a robust, long-lasting solution.
